Martyre Demarco is among the top-rated prospects on the West Coast. The class is loaded with some serious talent, and especially at the point guard position. While this Arizona class lost two if it's top nationally acclaimed prospects, Matt Carlino (Indiana commit) and Nick Johnson before the high school basketball season, Demarco is helping carry the torch for this loaded class of Arizona players. The talented junior guard is off to a very impressive start this high school season, after leading his Shadow Mountain Matadors (5-0) to this year's championship of the Paradise Valley Invitational. Demarco would earn the award as the Tournament's Most Valuable Player.

Tyler Wimbish, a 2011 athlete has been filling it up as of late. This rising star has been putting in work averaging 15pts and 8 rebounds per game for Mountain Point High School. Tyler spent most of the summer working on his game. Tyler has a great feel for the game he has it! He can play in the front or back court. In the front court Tyler has very good low post moves and has developed several counter moves to improve his game in the paint. In the back court Tyler has improved is game with his ability to shoot the mid range jumper and off the dribble drive.

Dysart High Schools senior forward Chris Heren is perceived as one of the top post player in Arizona’s 2010 class. This Xstream Development athlete is an academic all-star he is maintaining a 4.0 GPA and scored a high of 1,400 on the SAT. After going below the radar for the past year, Heren is emerging and starting to shine. This sleeper is currently averaging 10 and 10 for his High School Dysart Squad and taken then to their second region championship in the past two years. Heren has developed advanced low post moves which makes him a dynamic offensive threat. He is very crafty around the basket and has a nice 15-18 foot jumper. Look forward to seeing this emerging star out on the basketball circuit this summer.

In what was truly a hard fought battle of epic proportions and it all came down to literally the final seconds as McClintock’s Cameron Forte tipped the ball which landed in teammate Terrin Elim’s hands who scored the game winning basket with three seconds left in regulation to give Tempe McClintock high to a 73-71 over Phoenix Sunnyslope for the Arizona Class 4A Division I boys basketball title at Jobing.com Arena.
Elam's score with three seconds left Saturday lifted Tempe McClintock to victory over defending champion and top-seed Phoenix Sunnyslope for the Class 4A Division I boy’s basketball title at.
"That was all heart right there," said Elam, who spent much of the second half on the bench with four fouls.
"I never rebounded so hard in my life," Forte said of the last few seconds.
McClintock (25-6) captured its first state championship since 1986, behind 6-foot-5 junior swingman Forte's 39 points and incredible will on the glass.
Forte's four consecutive missed free throws in the final 1:06 allowed Sunnyslope (26-4) to rally, behind, who else, senior guard Royce Woolridge last year's Arizona Big Schools Player of the Year. With 57 seconds left in regulation, Sunnyslope’s Royce Woolridge scored on a drive to the basket to cut McClintock’s lead to 71-66. He then stole the inbounds pass and nailed a 3 to make it 71-69 with 50 seconds left. A feed inside to a cutting Kurt Foreman tied it with 35 seconds left.
In the final three seconds, Sunnyslope tried to set up a shot for Kansas-bound Woolridge but he never received the ball. Great team defense by McClintock stalled freshman point guard Alec Wintering who fed the ball inside to Jesse Milleson as time expired before Milleson could get his shot off.
"We were trying to throw over and get Royce on a back cut, and it didn't happen," Sunnsylope coach Dan Mannix said. "I was kind of hoping he'd take a desperation shot."Woolridge had an excellent game scoring 22 of his 34 points in the second half. McClintock’s Cameron Forte had an even more impressive game by scoring a game high 39 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. | Tempe MClintock defeats Phoenix Sunnyslope 75-73, Arizona 4A D1 State Champs. | 3/1/2010 3:43 PM |
PRESCOTT VALLEY - For a split second, senior guard Terrell Stoglin thought he lost the Class 4A-Division II state championship for Tucson Santa Rita.
With three seconds remaining in Saturday's title game and his team up by two, Stoglin went to the free throw line and missed both of shots. On the ensuing play, Tucson Amphitheater got off a 3-pointer that appeared headed for the bottom of the net.
"I was praying that it didn't go in because that would have been all on me," Stoglin said. "I would have felt awful."
But to the relief of Stoglin and Santa Rita (25-5), Amphitheater's last-second attempt bounced off the backboard, then the rim, and never made its way through the net.
No. 2-seed Santa Rita defeated No. 1-seed Amphitheater (29-3) 86-84.
"That was too close," Stoglin said.
The game was back and forth all night with five ties and 15 lead changes, but Santa Rita held a four-point lead going into the fourth quarter and appeared to be pulling away for the title.
But everything changed when senior center Andre Hatchett fouled out with three minutes remaining. After that, Amphitheater mounted a comeback and took the lead with 53 seconds to go.
But Santa Rita refused to lose.
It came up with key stops and clutch baskets before Amphitheater's final shot fell just short.
"I was sitting over there and I didn't want to look," said Hatchett, who finished the game with 26 points. "That was a crazy game, and I'm so happy that we won."
Santa Rita had lost in three straight title games before it finally prevailed Saturday. And for coach Jim Ferguson, the past failures made this win even sweeter.
"We really wanted it, and I don't know if this feeling can be matched right now," he said. "I'm just so happy, and so proud of every single one of these guys."

North High School (28-3) has done it - back-to-back state titles in the 5A Division. First it was the 5A Division-II state title last season, then the 5A Division-I state title Wednesday evening, as the North Mustangs held off a talented Cesar Chavez team, 71-66 for this year's 5A Division-I State Championship.
After six days, 24 games and far too many M&Ms - note to self: moderation - a look back at the state basketball championships:
Best team at its level: I didn't see Gilbert Christian, which went undefeated and won all of its games by at least 11 points, so I'll go with Goodyear Estrella Foothills, which captured its third consecutive Class 3A boys title and lost just one game, that to a California team. Estrella Foothills wasn't even tested in the state tournament, winning by 60, 50, 22 and 20 points.
Best player: What a tough call. Tempe McClintock junior Cameron Forte was outstanding in the games I saw, as was Phoenix Sunnyslope's Royce Woolridge and Phoenix Shadow Mountain's Lexi Kresl.
But I'll go with Phoenix North's Daniel Bejarano, who led North to the 5A Division I boys title. Bejarano didn't shoot well in the title game against Laveen Cesar Chavez, but he was outstanding in every other facet of the game.
Best coaching job: Mesa Dobson girls coach Tyler Dumas did an outstanding job preparing his team for Phoenix St. Mary's pressure defense in the Class 5A Division I title game. Dobson had its share of turnovers - and needed a miracle 3-point bank shot from Andrea Jones just to get to overtime - but it was in that position because Dumas drilled into his team how to beat St. Mary's press.
Player to watch in 2010-11: Has to be McClintock's Forte, the 6-foot-5 lefty junior who got the best of the more heralded Woolridge in their head-to-head matchup. Forte still has a lot to work on - his shot mechanics are awful, he's less than fully engaged defensively and he needs to get stronger - but he has the natural skills to play at a top-level Division I program.
Best way to go out: Winslow girls' coach Don Petranovich retired after 41 years of coaching with his seventh Class 3A title and eighth overall. Petranovich never seemed to like how his team was playing, but he got enough out of them to walk away with one final triumph.
Best game: Another tough call. There was the Dobson-St. Mary's overtime clash and the thriller between McClintock and Sunnyslope, but I'll go with the 5A-II boys title contest between Anthem Boulder Creek and Scottsdale Chaparral.
Both teams were well-coached, both teams played brilliantly, and the game came down to two plays: A 3-pointer by Boulder Creek's Ryan Zettle with 17 seconds left to take a one-point lead, and then an unexpected block by freshman Josh Braun of a Zeke Chapman runner that looked like it was going in to give Chaparral the title.
Boulder Creek coach Randy Walker said it best afterwards: "This is what a state championship game should be all about."
Biggest upset: What else? Dobson, the No. 10 seed, defeating No. 1 seed St. Mary's. Few saw that coming.
Biggest shot: Actually, it's two shots: Jones' 3-pointer to send the Dobson-St. Mary's game to overtime and then her game-winning jumper with six seconds left.
Here's guessing it's a night she'll remember forever. | North Wins back-to-back state titles | 3/5/2010 10:25 AM |

The 6-foot-3, 2011 Point Guard Marytre Demarco now takes center stage as the #1 recruited guard coming out of Arizona and arguably the West Coast. This quick and elusive guard has silenced all critics’ with his season ending performance. A few facts you may not know about Demarco, in his first seven games this season he averaged 35 points per game, while shooting 51 percent from the field. Taking his game to a new height he set out to break the scoring title.
Based on an order from his doctor Demarco was forced to take two weeks off from high school basketball mid season due to tendentious. After two weeks of rest and healthy again Demarco still finish the season averaging 20 points per game, that’s ridiculous. Back healthy again Demarco put up 29 points against his conference rival Royce Woolridge who signed with Kansas and earlier this past year he put up 50 points head to head over Terrell Stoglin who is heading to the University of Maryland. If the proof is in what you do and not what other say then he has gotten it done.
So who is recruiting Demarco: Cal, Boston College, U of A, Washington, Ucon, Washington State.
Xstreamdevelopment.com : After working out Martyre Demarco I have found that he has superior talent and has great handles. He has excellent range from the three point line. He can play either the 1 -2- 3 position; this is all based on his toughness. He can create his own shot, and has multiple counter moves, and is one of the quickest point/ combo guards I have ever worked with. He is definitely a five star athlete and easily a top 100 player in the country.

XDSPN.com wants to personally Congratulate Carrick Felix and the Felix family in his signing with Duke. I have personally known Carrick Felix since he was a freshman at Millennium high school. As a high School coach I have seen him grow over the years from a thin lanky kid with his long arms and frame to a heck of a player winning a High School Championship. It is great to see this Xstream athlete succeed at basketball and earn a scholarship and it is also great to see him succeed at life. If you have never met Carrick your first impression will always be he is a very good person to be around. Carrick Good luck from XDSPN.com I am know a Duke Fan!
The Duke Blue Devils broke history Tuesday morning. Over breakfast on Duke’s campus, coach Mike Krzyzewski accepted the first junior college commitment of his tenure at Duke.
Carrick Felix, a small forward out of the College of Southern Idaho, pledge allegiance to the program. Felix is a noted athlete who will have three seasons of eligibility remaining for the Blue Devils.
“He’s an extreme athlete, a real high flier,” CSI coach Steve Gosar said. “He’s got great conditioning and runs the court really well.
“He’s a great kid, he plays hard. He’s 6-feet-6, 195 pounds and a great kid. He’s all about winning. He’s got a big upside with three years to play. He’ll be all about the program. He’s got an unbelievable mom who has raised him to be a really good person.”
Gosar felt like Felix needed to boost his perimeter game and continue working on his ball handling. “He’s got three years to do that and he’ll make the commitment. He’s at a great place where that can happen.”

Although some high school players get hyped up without being tough or putting in the work, that is not the case for Marcel Govan from Betty-Fairfax High school. He is a 235lb wrecking machine in the paint. There is nothing soft about this young man’s demeanor who averaged 11 pts, 8 Rebounds while shooting 61 % from the field for the Fairfax Stamped basketball team. His inside game adheres to the word Power forward and he is one of a select group of heavy hitters to come out of Arizona in some time. Look for Marcel this spring to break down the paint this summer as he takes off on the basketball circuit with the Arizona Dream Team Elite basketball program.

(Phoenix, March 30, 2010) – The 2010 Phoenix Spring League (PSL) is a basketball league for high school players. Games were played weekly at Phoenix College during the month of March. The final night of the league was on March 25 when the ALL LEAGUE TEAM was announced.
In the 19 games played the selection committee had to choose the All League Team by there play and good sportsmanship. 132 players participated in the PSL and it was a success for teams to play prior to traveling during the spring and summer. Harrison Barnes began his senior season as Scout.com’s No. 1 player and he’ll end on top. The Ames (Iowa) High product got his second state championship, collected a ton of post-season hardware and helped Team USA defeat its international counterparts in the Hoop Summit. All in a year’s work for one of the most dedicated workers in his class.
Kyrie Irving did high school the right way. Each year he got better and by the time he was a senior, it was his show. He finished as Scout.com’s No. 2 overall player and the top point guard in a floor general class that will boost the college game.
Enes Kanter, our No. 3 prospect, is the mystery man of the entire group. A whirlwind jaunt from Turkey to the United States finally culminated with time at Stoneridge Prep. However, Kanter will be most lauded for his record-setting performance in the Hoop Summit where he toed the line with his 2010 counterparts and scored 34 points to break Dirk Nowitzki’s Hoop Summit record.
No. 4’s thru No. 7 are a tough call. Jared Sullinger bullied this class for probably more combined high school and AAU wins than any other player. He’ll have a Kevin Love-like college and NBA career and he’ll be a name synonymous with Big Ten post play for as long as he’s in the league.
Josh Selby or Brandon Knight? Take your pick. This was the toughest call of the Top 5. Both can score with Selby being the better finisher and Knight the sterner defender. Tobias Harris (No. 7) is a strong Top 10 pick. He worked in the weight room on his conditioning and body and the results are undisputed.
A trio of bigs round out the Top 10 beginning with Terrence Jones. The two-time state champion and player of the year in his state defined his position over the course of his career and took numbers along the way.
Perry Jones (No. 9) and Tristan Thompson (10) can settle their ranking battle on the court next season in the Big 12.
BREAKDOWN: 24 shooting guards, 21 small forward, 21 power forwards, 19 point | The final verdict on the Class of 2010 is in. | 5/6/2010 9:13 AM |

The summer league basketball tournaments are starting to heat up. This past weekend some of the Nation's top talent descended on the HAX in Los Angeles for the NIKE Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL) tournament. One player stood out, who also happens to be receiving recruiting attention from across the country, including Oregon State.

Parker shined at the NIKE EYBL tournament in Los Angeles |
Alpharetta (Ga.) Milton shooting guard Dai-Jon Parker is one of the Beavers top targets for the 2011 class. The talented 6-foot-4 guard can do it all and is currently rated 44th on the Rivals.com Top 150. After seeing him play in person, he will be a very special player at the next level.
Parker is currently splitting his spring between two teams, the Georgia Net Burners coached by Kenny Loyd and the Southern Kings coached by John Cross. BeaverBlitz caught up with both coaches recently to talk about the recruitment of Parker who has a great loyalty for both programs who do a great job with their student-athletes.
"He gave up football to focus on his skills and weaknesses in basketball," Loyd said. "Dai Jon works on his shooting every day, making 675 shots a day. He also does band workouts in the morning and uses sand pit workouts for his legs."
He compares to Dwayne Wade since he's very athletic and plays both ends of the floor. He's a scrappy player on defense and he's not afraid to get in his opponents face and use his long arms. Parker was one of the top defenders at the tournament.
On offense, Parker is explosive and is a high-level guard who can score buckets in a hurry. He can hit the mid-range jumper or take it out the NBA range and knock down the three-pointer. He's very consistent and attacks the basket every chance and he has good ball handling skills.
His travel schedule has already become hectic, traveling to NIKE events in Hampton, VA; Houston, TX; and Los Angeles, CA. In July he will be back on the West Coast to participate in the Main Event Tournament in Las Vegas.
With offers on the table from Oregon State, Virginia Tech, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Texas and others, he is starting to look ahead to his plans for college trips. One school he definitely plans to visit is Oregon State this fall.
"Coach Robinson and Coach Grace have done an excellent job recruiting Dai-Jon," Coach Cross said.
While he confirmed his visit plans to Corvallis, Parker said that he hadn't really thought of what other schools would round out his visit list.
For more information on Dai-Jon Parker and the Beavers other top recruiting targets, stay tuned to BeaverBlitz.com. | Summer league basketball tournaments are starting to heat up | 6/3/2010 4:02 PM |

Southern Idaho standout Carrick Felix settled on the school where he'll play next season when he committed to Arizona State Saturday while on an official visit to the school.

| Carrick Felix settled on Arizona State as his college destination Saturday |
"I'm real excited to be a Sun Devil," Felix said. "Everything about it feels perfect to me, like this is where I should have been all along. The things they've accomplished the last couple years I've taken notice; how things are rising how things are gradually getting better.
"Coach (Herb) Sendek said I committed because of his good looks. But seeing how the program has come along and being around the coaches and seeing what they're all about gave me a great feeling. They're such humble people. They were so comfortable around me and I was comfortable around them because of that. They believe in me and for them to have that much trust in me is a big factor. I can play at home finally and they made me feel welcome."
Felix, a 6-foot-6, 195-pounder who helped Goodyear (Ariz.) Millennium High School to a 4A Division I state championship in 2008 with averages of 17 points and 13 rebounds, was bombarded with interest immediately after reopening his recruitment May 24.
"I can't even explain after that whole situation happened with Duke," Felix said. "It was just a really, really crazy time in my life. I had schools calling me left and right, the first day I had over 30 offers just already there on the table. It was just a crazy time in my life. It was one of those times I can just look back and be like dang, look how blessed I am.
"It wasn't a downer at all (to part ways with Duke) because it was my decision. It's been [reported] I didn't get [academically accepted] but he coaches will tell you themselves it was my decision. It wasn't like I felt down about the whole thing. I felt better because I knew I was going to find somewhere that would best suit me and make feel as happy and as comfortable as I should be."
Felix said Alabama, Arkansas, Baylor, Butler, Kansas State, Providence, St. Mary's, UAB, UCLA, Washington, Washington, and Xavier were among the schools that offered. But he didn't visit any schools other than ASU following his de-commitment from Duke.
"I kind of knew what I wanted to do," Felix said. "Right when I got off the plane I felt something special. It was kind of just like the feeling when you meet the love of your life and you get that butterflies, joyful, happy, just like when I met the girl I'm with right now, who I'm in love with. She's in cosmetology school in Salt Lake City and is going to move here when she's done with that (in September)."
More than the opportunity to play at home, Felix said that ASU itself kept calling to him throughout the last couple weeks.
"It was all ASU related," he said. "In my head I was thinking 'Carrick, this is where you can lay your name down, where you can become somebody, where you can become successful.' From going to junior year varsity in high school to junior college to ASU, it has been a life changing experience. Coming out of high school I wasn't fully developed like I am now. I knew I wasn't. I didn't have the right skills, I didn't have the right body type. But I wanted to reach the goals I set in high schools.
"Admitting to yourself you're not where you want to be is good because you can change it. By me admitting I wasn't ready, it just made me more hungry. I had an option to pick from junior college or prep school. I choose junior college route because I thought by going to junior college it would prepare me to go to Division I college. Honestly there is great talent at JUCO and I wanted to go up against great talent to help me get better."
After suffering a broken wrist in his first year at Southern Idaho, Felix took a medical red shirt. Last season he was averaging over 22 points per game at the midway point of the season before illness and some nagging injuries (turf toe and sprained ankles) brought down his production. He finished with averages of 16.4 points and 4.7 rebounds while shooting over 50 percent from the field.
"My expectations are high right now," Felix said. "I feel like ASU is going to do a lot of big things. I'm excited to be a part of it because I know I can help them. I'm not saying I'm going to be the biggest factor but I know I can help coach Sendek get to where he wants to be and that means a lot to me because I really like him and the other coaches.
"The coaches have a lot of trust in me. They say I'm going to be a player that can just kind of do it all. Get the ball out of a rebound, if I want to take it up the court, make decisions, pass, come off screens and shoot, [isolations], post up. They see me as a big guard for them that can get it done on the offensive end and defensive end as well. I'm just glad they honestly told me what they want me to do and are going to work with me to get me where I want to be."

| 7-foot sophomore Isaiah Austin is among the nation's top prospects in the 2012 class. | Several of basketball's brand names observed the talent like Kenny Smith (TNT analyst), Tyson Chandler (Charlotte Bobcats) and DeMar DeRozan (Toronto Raptors-NBA), who were not surprised to see not only a packed gym but the level of talent that were at The University of California State at Dominguez Hills this past weekend. One source from the Channing Frye Bulldogs team said that Channing Frye was also watching his 14U and 16U youth teams - days after being eliminated by the Los Angeles Lakers. Tournament director Etop Udo-Ema runs this annual event, which has become one of the best for the scouts and several writers in attendance to observe talent prior to July. "Southern California is the place to be with all the media and scouts that watched this past weekend," said Udo-Ema. "Top teams were included from states like Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Northern California and Utah. The Playaz from New Jersey and the Minnesota Magic both tested the competition on the west coast." Several junior college and division II coaches stopped by trying to catch a last minute signee. As mentioned, over 1500 players played in this tournament won by the Compton Magic easily in a hard, scrappy game against the Las Vegas Dogcatchers. | Perry HS 6-foot-8, 240-pound senior post Ronny Spoon has signed with John Brown University. |
Perry High School's 6-foot-8, 240-pound senior post Ronny Spoon has signed a national letter of intent with John Brown University, an NAIA school located in Arkansas.
Spoon recently signed with the school and Head Coach Clark Sheehy, a major accomplishment for Spoon and also Perry High School. Perry High School is a newer high school located in Chandler, Arizona, and will prepare to enter it's fourth year of existence under the leadership of head coach Mark Nold.
Spoon has good potential as a low post prospect and has developed a great deal over the past several years. While he is a low post prospect still looking to reach his potential, his best years are still ahead of him.
In a state where true low post prospects seem to be very rare, Spoon is one of the state's bigger bodies and a true post presence.
Spoon saw much of his development over the past several spring and summers while competing on the AAU/club circuit while playing for both the Arizona Dream Team and also the Arizona Magic club programs.
Congratulations to Spoon and his family, as well as the Perry HS basketball program from our staff here at Arizona Preps.
Arizona Preps Scouting Report: Spoon definitely has the potential to become a nice prospect, as a result of his willingness to learn and compete. While he is still a little raw on the offensive side of the basketball, Spoon has a good skillset and is capable of playing either with his back to the basket or while facing the basket out to 3-point distance - although he at times finds himself out of position on the offensive end. Needs to stay focused on scoring on the low block. Spoon is currently at his best though when rebounding the basketball, which he does very well, especially since he is not afraid of contact and utilizes his large body very well. He is also a capable shotblocker, since he has a good wingspan and gets off the floor fairly well. Spoon will need continued focus in his lowpost footwork, low post moves and ability to knock down the mid-range jump shot to reach his full potential. Has an excellent attitude and enjoys the game.

Mesa (Ariz.) point guard Jahii Carson has had a busy schedule over the last several months and it's not going to get easier any time soon.

| Jahii Carson said his visit to Arizona State answered style of playing questions | Carson, the top-ranked prospect in Arizona's 2011 class at No. 61 overall and No. 14 at the position nationally, attended the NBA Player's Association Camp and Deron Williams Camp in recent weeks, going up against many of the top prospects in the country. "At the NBA Camp they showed us a lot of drills and skills we could work on at home and then there was a lot of knowledge about NBA life and the things players deal with regularly, so it was one of the best camps I've been to so far," Carson said. "At the Deron Williams Camp, there were like the Top-20 guys at the position and eight coaches, so the competition was out there and there was constant attention, and Deron was there the entire time, letting us know what he thought about our game and what we could work most on and what we did that would work well on the league, and how to [enhance] that. "They were great experiences because how often are you going to be able to get that type of instruction from people who are successful in the league? I was just trying to take all of it in and make the most of it." Beginning Sunday, the 5-foot-11 Carson will be on the road every weekend of July, as there are two all-important 10-day evaluation windows for college coaches. As a result, Carson is spending this week trying to rest up for what's ahead. "I feel pretty good actually," Carson said. "I'm eating well and getting proper rest so I'm taking care of my body pretty well and I haven't had any real problems yet." After his team played at the Arizona State team camp several weeks ago, Carson got an opportunity to spend time with the ASU coaches in order to get a better feel for the program's coaches and their playing style. "People who don't understand the game thing ASU just runs half court sets, but as I look at it, they push the ball until they can't get an easy bucket, and then they pull it back out and get into their half court offense," Carson said. " Coach (Herb) Sendek said in Division I basketball good teams get back (on defense) and that's what prevents teams from scoring in transition but when they can score in transition, they want to do that. They want to run and score easy baskets just like anybody else. "They actually showed a lot of clips and I could see they get out and run. People just use that because it's been the knock on ASU. Coach Sendek wants to run and score and he's also recruited players that can get out and run, like Keala King and Carrick Felix. With those types of guys, you're going to get out and run anyways. So style of play, he's going to fit what they're doing to the team's personality, and my personality and he said basically if I come to ASU, I'm going to have the freedom to run pick and rolls and motion offense and it's going to be so spread on the floor I'll be able to get in the paint and score and set up guys to score. "Coach also talked about the academic factor, how they're going to set me up for success. How they're going to have tutors for me and how everyone will be there to help and the players have a strong bond and they'll be there to help." Carson said the visit alleviated concerns he had about the Sun Devils' playing style and he's looking forward to taking another unofficial visit in August, where he'll be able to get a more comprehensive look at the campus and facilities. Many other colleges are working to get Carson to commit to visit their campuses in the fall and Carson's extensive list of suitors includes Alabama, Arizona, Boston College, Cal, Colorado, Indiana, Marquette, Memphis, St. John's, Texas, UCLA, UNLV, Villanova, and Washington Arizona, ASU, Boston College, Cal, Marquette, St. John's and UNLV have offered, Carson said. "I just want to keep my options open still because there are some possibilities I might overlook," he said. "I want to develop relationships with the head coaches as much as possible and see what all of my opportunities are and then make a decision from there which schools I'll still be seriously considering in the fall. Probably October or early November I want to narrow it down and then make my decision because I want it to be off my chest by the high school season. I want to be focused on my senior season and academics and my skills so I want to have it over with by then. "I'd say the schools in the Pac-10 have an advantage because they're closer and my family can watch me play at least a couple times a year, or a lot more if I am in Arizona. And the Pac-10 is a great league with great competition and guard play, so I know it'll be a situation where I'm tested and getting great experience and getting developed for the future." | Carson making most of experiences | 6/29/2010 1:23 PM |
John Makkar the 6’6 2011 wing has big expectations for his up and coming senior season. The three year starter for the Agua Fria Owls is now marked as one of the top high school players In Arizona. Makkar is set on making a statement this season.
John who did not play basketball for any club team over the entire spring and summer last year and was virtually unknown to allot of basketball coaches and scouts around the country.
Last season Avondale Agua Fria's 6-foot-6 180-pound junior wing John Makkar emerged as a top talent for the Agua Fria Owls, starting is his sophomore season. Makkar added another dimension to Owls giving them and inside and outside threat with the ability to hit the three point and mid-range shot. Makkar averaged 12 points, 10 rebounds and 2 steals per/game last season.
This year Makkar's stock appears to be rising to the top, Coaches are now taking notice of the 6-foot-6 shooting guard Makkar's accuracy and his athletic leaping ability.
This season Makkar will now take on a more defined basketball roll; no longer an unknown, teams are now accounting for his shooting threat, along with having to stop his ability to rebound and attack the basket.
Makkar stated that he is excited about his team this season. John can be seen working on his game every day before and after practice where he continues to work on his ball handling skills, his ability to shoot long range, and shooting off the dribble. He already has a threat from the outside, shooting fearlessly from the baseline corners. Makkar is blessed with a very long frame and wing span along with being exceptionally athletic for his size.
His long frame and athleticism has been compared to a combination of 6-foot-7 shooting guard Lawrence Hill a graduate at Stanford University. If he continues to work hard in the weight room and on the court the http://Xdspn.com team visualizes Makkar as possibly one of the top ranked senior players in the state of Arizona this up and coming season.

Last season WCD went 27-2 and they expect big things this year, too, as fellow Elite 24 participant Quincy Miller will join his good friend on this year’s team.
Rakeem Christmas New Church (Bryn Athyn, Pa.) 6-9/225 PF 2011 A skilled post player and talented shot blocker, Christmas’ best days are still ahead of him. He runs the floor as well as any big in the class of 2011, and his perimeter game is expanding. As a junior, Christmas was first team Class A all-state after averaging 14.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and three blocks per game. Also a summer standout, he helped Team Final reach the Nike EYBL semifinals. The No. 8 ranked prospect in the ESPNU 100, Christmas makes his second Elite 24 appearance.
DaJuan Coleman Jamesville-DeWitt (DeWitt, N.Y.) 6-9/280 PF 2012 As one of only two sophomores-to-be at last year’s Elite 24, Coleman showed that he could play with the nation’s best, no matter his age. After earning ESPN RISE National Freshman of the Year in 2008-09, Coleman followed up with a monster sophomore campaign. He led Jamesville-DeWitt to a 25-1 record and a Class A state title. In the state semis, he put together an outstanding game with a 23-point, 31-rebound performance in a 13-point victory. Coleman is undecided, but local Syracuse Orangeman want to see him stay home for college.
Amir Garrett Findlay Prep (Henderson, Nev.) 6-5/175 SF 2011 One of the fastest-rising prospects in the nation, Garrett is a smooth lefty. Before moving to Las Vegas, Garrett led Leuzinger (Lawndale, Calif.) to the school's first section-ever section title. Garrett averaged 16.8 points and 7.2 rebounds and was named the CIF Southern Section Division I-A Co-Player of the Year. He is headed back to Las Vegas as a senior where he’ll be a major contributor to a program eyeing its second POWERADE FAB 50 title in three years.
Myck Kabongo Findlay Prep (Henderson, Nev.) 6-2/170 PG 2011 The No. 7 ranked prospect in the ESPNU 100, Kabongo takes over as the Pilots’ floor general for good friend and fellow Canadian Cory Joseph. As a junior, Kabongo helped St. Benedict’s Prep (Newark, N.J.) to a 20-1 record and a No. 4 ranking in the POWERADE FAB 50. Headed to Texas, Kabongo averaged 18 points and 6 assists for the Gray Bees on his way to ESPN RISE Underclass All-American honors. He kicked off his summer with MOP honors at the Pangos All-American Camp.
James McAdoo Norfolk Christian (Norfolk, Va.) 6-8/210 PF 2011 One of the most highly decorated players in this year’s Elite 24, McAdoo is the reining Gatorade State Player of the Year in Virginia. He led the Ambassadors to a 26-4 record and a Division II state title game appearance, averaging 22.5 points, 9.9 rebounds and 1.9 steals. Ranked No. 5 in the ESPNU 100, McAdoo was named a second team All-American by ESPN RISE in 2009-10 and USA Basketball Athlete of the Year in 2009, after leading the U.S. to the FIBA Americas 16U championship.
Quincy Miller Westchester Country Day (High Point, N. C.) 6-9/210 PF 2011 The Chicago native had a standout junior season at Quality Education Academy (Winston-Salem, N.C.), averaging 25.5 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and three blocked shots. He led QEA to a 22-8 mark and the National Christian Schools Athletic Association title, earning second team ESPN RISE All-American honors in the process. Ranked No. 4 in the ESPNU 100, Miller has as much upside as anyone in the 2011 class. He will join Elite 24 teammate Quddus Bello at Westchester Country Day next year.
LeBryan Nash Lincoln (Dallas, Texas) 6-7/225 SF 2011 Strong and explosive, Nash draws comparisons to L.A. Lakers’ forward and noted playground baller Ron Artest. Ranked No. 10 in the ESPNU 100, Nash is coming off a junior season where he led Lincoln to a 28-4 record. He averaged 17.8 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. A 4A all-state selection and first team all-area by the Dallas Morning News, Nash is undecided on a college.
Johnny O’Bryant East Side (Cleveland, Miss.) 6-10/245 C 2011 O’Bryant’s favorite team is the Los Angeles Lakers. Don’t be surprised if the NBA players seated courtside are impressed with him, too. Ranked No. 17 in the ESPNU 100, O’Bryant is coming off a junior season that saw him average 15 points and 7.2 rebounds for a 26-7 team. He’s been a standout with USA Basketball the past two summers. In 2009, he was a starter on the FIBA Americas 16U title team and earlier this summer started on the FIBA U17 World Championship team and did not taste defeat in either tournament.
Austin Rivers Winter Park (Winter Park, Fla.) 6-4/190 SG 2011 The bigger the stage, the better Rivers plays as evidenced by his performances at this year’s ESPN RISE NHSI and the City of Palms Tournament last December. The son of Celtics coach Doc Rivers, this gifted shooting guard averaged 24.3 ppg and 4.3 rebounds, including a 45-point outing in the Wildcats’ win over FAB 50 No. 4 St. Benedict's (Newark, N.J.). He also went for 41 points in a win over Pine Crest (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.). Rivers was named ESPN RISE National Junior Player of the Year.
Adonis Thomas Melrose (Memphis, Tenn.) 6-6/210 SF 2011 He earned ESPN RISE Underclass All-American honors after leading Melrose to a Class AAA title with averages of 18.0 points, 11.2 rebounds, 3.8 blocks, and 3.2 steals per game. Scouts and college coaches love Thomas’ frame and athletic ability, but he’s more than just potential. Before leading the Memphis Magic Elite to the Adidas Super 64 title game, he helped the U.S. capture the 2010 FIBA U17 Gold Medal game in Germany with eight points, eight rebounds and three steals.

France used their international experience going 13-26 shooting from behind the arch and 40-70 shooting over all and outrebounded the USA West by 12 boards. PJ Hairston 6'6" 227 body is NBA Ready and showwing he has the skills that may allow him to gain entry into the North Carolina's starting line up and he clearly will be a NBA Lottery draft pick in 2013. He left his man for an open three at the end of regulation to send the game into overtime, but he made the overtime worth watching the extra minutes. He started overtime with a three-pointer and then drew a charge call on the defensive possession. He finished the night with 28 points and clearly caught the attention of the NBA Scouts

No one knows why Bryce Cotton went unnoticed for so long; but the simple fact is after playing club ball this summer he has really upped his game from a mid to a high major player. Once a virtual unknown, he is now the best available senior player on the West Coast.
Last season the Tucson Palo Verde 2010. 6-foot-1, 180-pound senior point guard emerged as a top talent for taking on the role as the top scorer on his high school team. Cotton’s tough play and court savvy added another dimension, helping his team to the state final.
One of Cotton's signature prep moments came when he buried a jumper with 1.1 seconds to play to lift Palo Verde over Santa Rita high school and Terrell Stoglin who is headed to the University of Maryland. He finished that night with 29 points.
Cotton has an uncanny accuracy with his ability to hit the three-point and mid-range shot. Cotton averaged 22 points, 7 assist and 3 steals per/game. “Mild mannered off the court on the court Bryce has a tremendous upside and a very good basketball IQ. He possesses tremendous leaping ability and his explosiveness is comparable to Jarred Bayless.” stated his AAU Coach Vernon Holmes.
This year Cotton's stock continues to rise to the top; at the Cream of Crop averaging 23 points per game and at the Las Vegas Fab48 tournament where he lead his club team, the Arizona Dream Team, to victory in Bronze Championship. With numerous college coaches looking on such as Drexel, ASU, Arizona, and Michigan all watched Cotton as he hit a plethora of shoots from the outside and breaking down defenses at will. “He is a true leader” said Coach Holmes. This was evident as he led the Arizona Dream Team down 20 points at the half, back to win the Bronze Championship Division.
Cotton is contemplating several offers, but leaning towards attending a prep school next year. Cotton stated unless the right offer comes along he will take the time to showcase his talent to high major programs next year looking for the right fit.
August could be very interesting as schools such as Michigan, ASU, Saint John’s and Boston College are inquiring about cottons tough play. | Cotton now the best available senior player on the West Coast. | 8/29/2010 11:56 PM |

Nick Johnson of Findlay Prep, shown practicing last winter, verbally committed to the University of Arizona basketball program.
Findlay Prep guard Nick Johnson has verbally committed to the University of Arizona basketball program.
Johnson, who is from Gilbert, Ariz., averaged 14.2 points and 3.6 assists per game for Findlay last winter. The nationally ranked program, which is housed in Henderson, won a second straight ESPN Rise national title.
The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Johnson is ranked as the nation’s No. 45 overall prospect by recruiting website Rivals.com. The four-star recruit is the nation’s No. 13-rated shooting guard.
Johnson picked Arizona over eight other scholarship offers, including Louisville, Kentucky and Arizona State. Verbal commitments are non-binding. | Nick Johnson Commits to U of A | 8/18/2010 9:48 PM |
A month after jumping all over new St. John's basketball coach Steve Lavin's offer, former Tucson Pueblo guard Michael Perez said in an e-mail that he decommitted and has signed with Texas-El Paso

.
Perez, 6-foot-3, who has tremendous jumping ability and averaged 29.9 points and 8.1 rebounds a game last season, had never visited New York when the offer came during the AAU showcase month.
It was a curious offer from a Big East school

for a kid whose best offer until then was from UTEP. One of Lavin's assistants is Mike Dunlap, who was an assistant at Arizona during its Sweet 16 season in 2008. Dunlap may have seen Perez play then.
Lavin was impressed by Perez's athleticism during a tournament in Long Beach, Calif., in July,
Chad Groth, a local tournament director who had enlightened Perez about the St. John's offer at the time, said Lavin couldn't wait this late in the summer to see if
Perez would qualify academically and had to move on without Perez.
But just this week, Perez made it through the NCAA Clearinghouse. He said he starts classes at UTEP on Monday.

August 29, 2010- Tucson, AZ- After watching Bryce Cotton (Palo Verde High School, Tucson, AZ) play in the Arizona JUCO All American Camp last month in Phoenix, AZ. Keno Davis pulled the trigger on Arizona's best senior prospect available. Davis is the head coach of Providence College a member of the Big East conference.
Cotton will sign this week and enroll in class at Providence College. "I took a official visit this past weekend and liked the campus and staff. I really felt good and the players took me in" Said Cotton.
Cotton also gained interest in July from Oregon, St. John's, Illinois and California State Bakersfield.
"He was well overdue, Said Vern Holmes (Cotton's AAU coach). Bryce is a very athletic point guard who will do well in college. Most of all Bryce is a good kid and will adjust to the Big East just fine. Several schools missed out."
Cotton played this past July with the Arizona Dream Team and led them to the Championship of the FAB 48 bronze division. Cotton averaged 23 ppg in the FAB 48. During the Arizona JUCO All American Camp he made the Top 20 games and was rated by most scouts as the Top Senior Prospect available.

August 31, 2010 - Gilbert, AZ – Two days of basketball for some of the top guards in the state of Arizona was held at Gilbert Christian School on August 28-29, 2010. Several players shined and displayed there guard abilities.

2012 top point guard Jonathan Milligan
The camp was directed by Dinos Trigonis who has coached, mentored and teaches several NBA, college and high school players the guard position the correct way. Trigonis is the director of the Pangos All American Camp and Pangos Live events which are in the summer.
This camp taught players in grades 3 thru 12 fundamentals needed to master the lead guard positions, meaning point guard and combo. Lead guard positions and responsibilities will be broken down to develop individual player skills.
“Collin Woods is one of the most under rated guards in the country, Demrtius Balark and Jonathan Milligan also showed well being two solid guards that have a chance”, said Trigonis.
“Players need to take home what Dino’s teaches us and work on there skills daily. I have improved my guard skills over the past few years by attending this camp. I also received plenty of exposure from the guard camp, ” Said Balark.
Some of the NBA players Trigonis has coached include Baron Davis (Los Angeles Clippers), Brandon Jennings (Milwaukee Bucks), Casey Jacobsen (Memphis Grizzlies), Kirk Snyder (Minnesota Timberwolves), Jeff Trepagnier (Denver Nuggets), Marcus Williams (Memphis Grizzlies) and DeMarcus Nelson (Chicago Bulls).

| Tempe HS 6-foot-2 senior guard Jordan Baker has given a verbal commitment to Pepperdine University. | After sitting out the majority of his junior season at Tempe HS with an injury to his arm, Baker returned to action this spring and summer, only to become one of the hottest guard prospects in the 2011 class on the West Coast. Baker led his Arizona Magic program to numerous big wins and a strong overall summer performance in July, which faired well for Baker in his college recruitment as he generated serious interest from such schools as Arizona State, Oregon State, Utah, Pepperdine, Weber State, Utah State, Colorado State, Fresno State, UC-Santa Barbara, Western Illinois, UC-Riverside, Hawaii and Liberty. After receiving official scholarship offers from Pepperdine, Weber State, Fresno State, Western Illinois and UC-Riverside, Baker recently took official visits to Weber State and Pepperdine. After taking an official visit to Pepperdine University this weekend, Baker found his fit and gave Head Coach Tom Asbury and his basketball staff a verbal commitment. Pepperdine assistant coach Damin Lopez, a former standout basketball player from the state of Arizona, was instrumental in the recruitment of Jordan to the school. Now with his college recruitment out of the way for himself, Baker has his sights on having a big senior season for Tempe HS. | Jordan Baker Commits to Pepperdine | 9/14/2010 9:29 AM |

After talking to Hasan father Anthony Tucker, he stated that Hassan is very focused for this coming high school season and continues to work harder and harder every day. Pangos All-West Frosh/Soph Camp Day One... By Van Coleman van@hoopmasters.com
The Pangos All-West Frosh/Soph Camp featured some of top young talent on the West Coast headed by players like Torren Jones, Aaron Gordon, Rashad Muhammad, Jabari Byrd, and Stanley Johnson...
Once again, Pangos Director Dinos Trigonis and his partner at the Fullctpress.net, our own Etop UdoEma worked together to bring a deep and talented field of young talent to Lynwood High this weekend. The talent was headed by top twenty-five sophomores Aaron Gordon, Rashad Muhammad, and Torren Jones, along with top 25 freshman StanleyJohnson; but the player who capped off the evening with Sportcenter type highlights was 6-6 Jumping Jack wing man Jabari Byrd who had Dwayne Wade type explosion to the rim. No doubt this was a deep group that represents the west coast's future very well. With that in mind here's a look at the top talent on day one at the Pangos All-West Frosh/Soph Camp:
The Top Dozen Prospects - (Listed by Height)
Joe Boyd 6-9 C/PF (2013) Scottsdale, AZ Chapparral - This skilled face up big scored with range facing and could roll to blocks and hit jump hoop. Good help side defender too!
Maurice Kirby 6-8 C/PF (2013) Sun Tan Valley, CA Poste Butte - This physical big man could grow to 6-10/11 as mom is 6-4 & dad is 6-6, add that to the fact he can face and drive or post and jump hook over other bigs and he is definitely going to see his school list grow this winter.
Torren Jones 6-8 W/PF (2013) Chandler, AZ Basha - This physical, but skilled inside scorer flat out finished with authority, hit glass and finished drive with regularity off face-up!
Aaron Gordon 6-7 WF (2013) San Jose, CA Archbishop Mitty - One of nation's best wing scorers and handlers made a case for moving up to top ten status with his aggressive game and high level skills.
Jabari Byrd 6-6 WG/F (2013) Richmond, CA Salesian - Some compared him to Dwayne Wade, others Corey Benjamin, but one thing is clear he is going to open some eyes this winter and has tools to dominate in high school. Don't be surprised if he cracks top twenty-five on our next update.
Daiveon Leverett 6-5 WF (2013) Stockton, CA Weston Ranch - This bouncy athlete attacked basket off the dribble and made the crowd buzz with his explosion on dunk-back tips and pull-up jumpers.
Malcolm Davis 6-5 WF (2014) Las Vegas, NV Shadow Ridge - This physical wing man attacked rim off the dribble and finished in traffic with best in camp. He used solid jumper to keep defense honest!
Stanley Johnson 6-5 WG (2014) Santa Ana, CA Mater Dei - This smooth and strong freshman wing guard knocked down shot off the dribble and finished drive with kiss off the glass. He should rate among nation's top fifteen to twenty freshmen and is a reason why Mater Dei will be among nation's top high school programs in the future.
Rashad Muhammad 6-4 WG (2013) Las Vegas, NV Bishop Gorman - This athletic wing man has comgo guard skills, creates for teammates in transition, can knock down three or get to rim with either hand.
Darin Johnson 6-4 WG (2013) Elk Grove, CA Franklin - Explosive and quick wing talent can flat out take you off the dribble with both hands or pop pull-up jumper. He can lead the break in a pinch. Just scratching surface!
Noah Allen 6-4 WG/F (2013) Pacific Grove, CA Paloma - This long and bouncy wing flat out knocked down jumper from around the arc with regularity. He hit pull-up too, and got to rim when needed.
Mike Garcia 6-3 P/WG (2013) Playa Del Rey, CA St. Bernard's - This thin, but wiry combo guard attacked off the dribble, hit jumper from three and made plays on both ends of court. Look for his stock to rise on the west coast!
We evaluated over thirty young talents that we felt would go mid-major or higher at this weekend's Pangos All-West Camp on the opening day. We look forward to bringing you more on the All-West Frosh/Soph Camp, right here at Hoopmasters.com. | Pangos All-West Frosh/Soph Camp Day One... | 10/3/2010 2:15 PM |
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The first John Lucas Midwest Invitational Camp, which was held at Hoops gym, was loaded with talent and consisted of skills training and scrimmage games for some of the most talented players from not only the Midwest, but the country in a variety of graduating classes.
John Lucas, who was drafted first overall in 1976 by the Houston Rockets, has coached three NBA teams after a great college career at the University of Maryland and brought a lot of experience to the campers.
Player to watch
Jonathan Milligan (Casa Grande, Ariz./Union) 2012, PG, 6-2, 150 pounds He drew a lot of attention during the drills, where he handled, passed and shot the ball very well. Milligan is a wiry thin, but very skilled combo guard who has good speed and quickness. He displayed excellent court vision and delivered the ball on the money when he attacked off the dribble and drew multiple defenders. He can also get to the rim and finish with a nice touch, as well as hit mid-range jumpers with ease. Milligan, who mentioned Oregon State, Clemson and Denver, has a good feel for the game and is a player to keep an eye on. | Espnu - Jonathan Milligan (John Lucas Midwest Invitational recap) | 10/5/2010 10:30 PM |

By: Jeff Meadows
As the fall winds down, the Phoenix Fall Showcase which was held at Phoenix College in Phoenix, AZ once again displayed top talent along with top H.S. & AAU Teams all under one roof. “It just keeps growing & growing” says event Director Chad Groth “The number of teams and individual have almost doubled from last year's showcase". Chaparral, Basha, Santa Rita, Impact Basketball Academy, Palo Verde, Catalina Foothills, Sierra Linda, Arcadia, Glendale, Poston Buttes, Pueblo, Millennium, Mesquite, Desert Vista, Lake Havasu such AAU teams as: AZ All-Stars, Ball Dawgs, Tucson Heat & 7 Free Agent teams (teams made up of players that signed up individually) were all very good, completive & evenly matched. Event director Chad Groth did a very good job with matching up the teams, accommodating teams with their special game time request for game times & event organization. This event was full of excitement, big plays, & nail biting close games with dramatic finishes. There were no stats taken for this event and there was so much going on that I just wasn’t able to even get the final scores to the majority of the games so I won’t be able to give my oh so EXCITING, SECOND TO NONE game by game reports but what I am going to give you is my Phoenix Fall Showcase All-Showcase team, Best of the Rest list. I hope you enjoy my player listings below, have fun.

Well my friends, I hope you enjoyed my All-Phoenix Fall Showcase Team & my Best of the Rest player lists. The Phoenix Fall Showcase has become a "Mainstay Event" meaning as a player, you "DEFINATELY DO NOT WAN TO MISS" this event each fall to compete against "TOP NOTCH" competition and receive the "EXPOSER" that you want & need. The fall is just about over & there's one more event left & that event is the "GRANDE FINALE" event of the fall "WEST COAST FALL SHOWCASE/HOOPS FEST". Players, if you have not already registered for this BLOCKBUSTER EVENT I will say this, you might want to get registered ASAP because not only is this event LOADED but it's filling up fast! This event will feature the TOP prospects in the classes of 2011-15. To register for this event click on the "WEST COAST FALL SHOWCASE" article & to view the commitment list click on the "WEST COAST FALL SHOWCASE UPDATE" article. I will be using this event for my regionally renowned Arizona Preseason All-State Teams & also for our www.hoopsreport.com's national rankings in the classes of 2011-14. Both rankings will be posted in the month of November so make sure that you stay logged on to www.hoopsreport.com for your regional/national high school basketball coverage | 4th Annual Phoenix Fall Showcase RECAP | 10/12/2010 9:27 PM | Poston Butte High School's 6-foot-9, 215-pound sophomore post Maurice Kirby shocked the state of Arizona's basketball community Thursday evening with his early verbal pledge to Arizona State University.
 |
 |
 |
| Maurice Kirby becomes the state of Arizona's youngest college commit ever. | Still only a mere 15 years of age, Kirby officially became the state of Arizona's youngest commit ever - matching and joining Arcadia High School's 6-foot-2 junior guard Larry Lewis as the two youngest commits ever in Arizona history. Lewis committed just as young (15 years of age) this spring to USC. "It was what I wanted to do," said Kirby. "I didn't care about the recruiting process as much as other people do. I knew where I wanted to go all along, so when they offered me it was a wrap." Former Sunnyslope HS graduate Royce Woolridge also committed to the University of Kansas just after his sophomore season in 2008. While Kirby has yet to even play a game during his sophomore season at his new school as of yet, Kirby's ealy commitment will not affect his focus on his development as a player. "I am only going to work harder," said Kirby. "I want to be the best player I can be, so I have got a lot of work ahead of me." Kirby chose to commit to Arizona State over serious interest from Oklahoma, UNLV and Oregon State. The offer from Arizona State was Kirby's first true scholarship offer. With Kirby now officially off the recruiting board for Arizona's ultra-talented 2013 class, it should be very interesting to see how the recruitment of the remainder of the top targets in the class unfolds. Kirby's early commitment should only intensify the recruitment of other top prospects in the class, as programs will look to gain an edge on one another now that Kirby has led the way. It will be very interesting to observe over the next two years. Kirby is also an excellent student and carries a perfect 4.0 CUM GPA. | Maurice Kirby Commits to Arizona State University | 10/18/2010 10:14 AM |

| West Coast Fall Showcase "PLATINUM" Bracket | 10/24/2010 11:18 PM |

Written By Chad Groth, Recruiting Analyst
Another senior from Arizona is going to ink on November 12 with a division 1 program. Tyler Russell a 6 foot 1 point guard from Millennium High School in Goodyear, AZ gave a verbal to Houston Baptist University.
"The coaches had the best interest for my son. Not just the head coach Ron Cotrell, but his entire staff. He has been there for twenty years and the assistant that recruited Tyler has been there for 19 years", said Pastor Russell, Tyler's father.
Since there is no football team at HBU, basketball is there number one priority. Tyler is one of the most athletic guards in the country and is a great person of character on and off the floor. HBU gets a natural leader in Russell.
Russell took a official visit to Houston Baptist University over Halloween weekend and enjoyed his visit. Russell played in early October in the Phoenix Fall Showcase at Phoenix College and was named First Team All-Showcase.
Russell averaged 24 points per game, 5.3 rebounds, 5 assist and 3 steals per game last season. He was the top point guard prospect from Arizona available as of last week. Many schools jumped on late but Russell felt like this was the place to be as Tyler was there number one point guard they were recruiting.
Russell picked Houston Baptist University over Columbia and Yale. | Tyler Russell commits to Houston Baptist University | 11/10/2010 8:45 AM |
